Somatic Expressive Arts

SEPTEMBER 24 – 27, 2026
WITH ROSARIO SAMMARTINO & JOSHUA MCCLAIN

ABOUT THE RETREAT
Step out of daily rhythm. Enter the creative process.
Join us for four days of embodied and creative explorations in a peaceful twenty-acre oasis nestled in the Columbia River basin. Surrounded by nature, we will slow down, listen more deeply, and reconnect through movement, drawing, writing, and other expressive practices. Live cello woven throughout the retreat offers another layer of inspiration.
Whether you are seeking creative renewal, a deeper connection, or time to reconnect with yourself and your practice, this intimate small-group retreat offers a rich space for embodied inquiry, creative exploration, and the depth of being together in person.
FACILITATORS

ROSARIO SAMMARTINO
Dr Rosario Sammartino is a therapist and educator working at the intersection of somatics, expressive arts, and depth psychology. With over twenty years of experience, her work explores the relationship between body, emotion, and imagination, with a particular focus on trauma healing. She is core faculty at the Tamalpa Institute, where she has taught for over fifteen years, and also teaches at the graduate level, including at Lewis & Clark Graduate School. Grounded in the Life/Art Process® and informed by Authentic Movement, Creative Connection, and trauma-informed somatic approaches, Rosario guides participants into in-depth creative and embodied processes that support reflection, connection, healing, and transformation.

JOSHUA McCLAIN
Joshua McClain is a Portland-based cellist, composer, and multidisciplinary artist known for creating immersive, emotionally resonant soundscapes. Using looping pedals and live effects, he transforms the cello into a layered, expansive instrument that moves between intimacy and intensity. His work includes performances, collaborations across genres, film scoring, and projects such as Morning Cello, reflecting a deep interest in music as a pathway for reflection, emotional depth, and transformation. In collaborative settings, Joshua’s live cello becomes part of the creative process itself—supporting movement, embodied presence, and deeper listening within oneself, in relationship with others, and in connection to the unfolding moment.
